SQUAD GAME - Breaking through Barriers

Published on 20 Sep 2025 by Valerie Chin

After a full day of workshops and talks, the atmosphere among the 60 participants from a leading insurance organization was polite but subdued. Participants were attentive, but energy was running low. Then — from the shadows, in walked the Bossman.

The reaction was instant and unforgettable. A loud “whoooooa! rippled through the crowd. In that moment, the shift began. What had been a tired group suddenly came alive with curiosity, surprise, and anticipation. It was the perfect spark to set the stage for what came next.

The games began with Front Man Says and Red Light, Green Light. These light-hearted openers quickly loosened up the group. Hesitant smiles turned into laughter, and those who were initially reserved found themselves joining in with ease.

Then came Ddakji. Equipped with their very own Ddakji, every slam of the folded tiles against the floor drew cheers, groans, and bursts of laughter. The room buzzed with energy, competitive spirit, and camaraderie. Participants weren’t just playing a game — they were leaning into each other, cheering louder, and connecting more naturally with every round.

The Turning Point

If Ddakji raised the energy, Tug of War sent it soaring! Teammates dug in, voices filled the room with encouragement, and everyone pulled together — quite literally. No one was sitting down as they their team pulled, everyone joined in, collectively encouraging their team and vigorously cheering them on.

A Suspense-Filled Challenge

The highlight of all challenges was Glass Bridge, played in near-darkness with glowing LED lanes lighting the path. Each step carried suspense, and the mix of nervous laughter as teammates tested their luck, communication, and memory. Loud triumphant shouts and congratulations sealed the day’s transformation.

From cautious beginnings to full-on unity, the group’s journey was remarkable. People who started off shy, quiet, and hesitant to speak ended the session fully engaged, openly encouraging each other, and celebrating every shared win.

The Takeaway

This experience reinforced a powerful truth: barriers don’t always take months to break down. With the right blend of encouragement, positive reinforcement, and shared excitement, people can move past fear of judgment and quickly find connection.

✨ Key Lesson: Shared excitement builds trust faster. Laughter, challenge, and play aren’t just “icebreakers” — they are powerful catalysts that turn individuals into one united team.
